Philippe Sauvie
Philippe Sauvie is an artist that lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
From the artist;
I am a painter and my near abstract work which occasionally contains figurative elements, is built with a unique layering process. My paintings are made in stages and the process sometimes feels more like cinema, and I use digital technologies to generate more depth and layers. The final product is an archival fabricated artwork built on metal and then mounted to a panel support that can create a dialog between the relevance of printmaking and the tradition of both painting and photography. The final mounting is an important part of the process because it gives the painting even more depth, as I am using a surface layer similar to resin and encaustic which gives the work a shiny glow bordering on iridescence, and works for the image, not against it. An added benefit is that the surface created protects the image without the use of glass. Though I do use some digital print processes in this work, each piece I consider an unique painting, and the final archival mountings are also unique and handmade.
